Introduction

COMPAS is a progressive, open source Python framework for computation in Architecture, Engineering and Construction.

What COMPAS is

COMPAS gives you geometry, data structures and algorithms for design and construction, all in plain Python. It is open source under the MIT license and developed by researchers and practitioners in the AEC community.

What you get

  • The core library (compas): points, frames, curves, surfaces, meshes, graphs, transformations and a JSON data model shared by all of them.
  • Extensions: packages for fabrication, structural analysis, robotics, solid modelling and more, built on the same core. See Packages.

Where it runs

The same code runs in plain Python, Rhino, Grasshopper and Blender. Use the tabs at the top of the docs to switch between tools. Pages whose instructions differ, such as Installation, change with the tab.
